Female workers of Mardin Municipality subjected to police harassment

Mardin Metropolitan Municipality’s female workers are subjected to police harassment. The women say, “Stop police harassment, remove police from municipalities.”

The police swarming the Metropolitan Municipality building that is treated as their police station after the appointment of the trustee to the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality are harassing the female workers. A worker who wishes to remain anonymous said the police harassment starts at the entrance of the building and continues throughout the municipality until the end of their shift.

“WE ARE CONSTANTLY HARASSED”

The female municipality worker said the following: “The harassment starts when we go in in the morning. They first harass the women with their eyes. Then they come to the corridors and the rooms after the working hours start. There they engage in verbal harassment, they ask women to meet them after work, etc. We don’t know what to do.”

“WOMEN STAY SILENT FOR FEAR OF LOSING THEIR JOBS AND THEIR SAFETY”

The worker said almost all female personnel in the municipality have been subjected to police harassment, and added: “But nobody can speak or file a complaint because people fear losing their jobs, being arrested and they fear for their lives.”

“REMOVE THE POLICE FROM THE MUNICIPALITY”

The harassed woman stated that the police needs to be removed from municipalities at once or the authorities should take action against the harassment which -she warned- was getting more extreme every day and much more negative situations may occur if no precautions are taken.
