YJA STAR guerrillas who are resisting Turkish invasion in Kurdistan territory and counter genocidal attacks despite challenging winter conditions in the region, stated that March 8 needs to be understood with the wide context of women’s freedom struggle and conduce toward new moves.

Besê Anuş: March 8 is a day that gained further importance thanks to our leading martyrs like Sara, Zilan and Veritan. Thanks to the philosophy of Leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan), we, women are resisting freely today for our right to life. As Kurdish women, we are taking our place in a significant ans historic process. As militants of the Women’s Freedom Movement, we are trying to involve the women, whose identity is ignored, who are subjected to intimidation with murder and whose scream is not heard anywhere, into the struggle. On occasion of this day, all women should wake up from where they are supressed. We must enhance our struggle and maket his day more meaningful. Women shouldn’t remain silent on this colonialist system anymore.

Nazlıcan Rêdûr: March 8 must be met with the awareness of the system of torture, rape and explotiation that has targeted women’s identity for centuries, and the perception of enhancing the resistance. This day is also an expression of the glorious resistance of women. With his labor, Leader Apo has enabled women to fight for their freedom. We reiterate once again that we will follow in the footsteps of leading revolutionaries Sara, Zilan, Beritan, Sema and Viyan. They did not fight by firing bullets alone. They waged a political, ideological and diplomatic struggle against this fascist system. We will try to be worthy of them. Thousands of women are fighting on the frontline and this proves women’s determination and commitment to struggle. We will continue with our struggle under the motto “resist and become free”.
