The women of the People's Alternative Revolutionary Force, FARC, have issued a statement in solidarity with the hunger strike of HDP Hakkari deputy Leyla Güven, who was unjustly imprisoned by the Erdogan regime from the day she was elected to the Parliament.
The statement reads: "The arbitrary and anti-democratic regime of Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Turkey has unleashed an open war against the Kurds, which has led to arrests of dozens of politicians and more than 5,000 HDP activists.
Leyla started the hunger strike to protest the isolation imposed on the leader of the PKK, Abdullah Öcalan in the island of Imrali, where he is detained, since 2015.
The imprisonment and isolation of Mr. Öcalan is an obstacle in the way of peace and the political solution to the situation of the Kurdish people and goes against all international conventions.
There are several hunger strikes in different cities of the country in solidarity with comrade Leyla; Likewise, 10 members of the HDP have started a hunger strike in Parliament in solidarity with her struggle.
As Farianas we sympathize with the hunger strikes and hope that the illegal imprisonment of Leyla Güven will end as soon as possible, so that she can resume her legislative activity. Likewise, we ask that Mr. Öcalan's inhuman and illegal isolation be brought to an end, so that the door opens again towards peace talks in Turkey."
