Hearing in the case against Kongreya Jinên Azad (KJA,  Free Women's Congress) Magazine Licensee and former MP Ayla Akat Ata and Editor In Chief Helin Tolan has been held at Diyarbakır 5th Heavy Penal Court. Akat is accused of spreading propaganda for a terrorist organisation (PKK) in her writings in the March-April 2016 issue of the magazine.

Ata, who is jailed in Kocaeli No 1 F Type Prison in the scope of another lawsuit, attended the hearing via video-conference system SEGBİS, while Helin Tolan was personally present at the court.

Ata rejected the court labeling the KJA an illegal structure, stressing that the association was founded with permission from Diyarbakır Governor's Office.

Speaking after, Helin Tolan rejected the accusations directed at her, and demanded her acquittal.

Following the defense of lawyers who said accusations were against the freedom of thought and expression, the court postponed the hearing to May and decided to combine another case opened against Ata with this one on the grounds that both cases were linked.

The hearing in another case against Ata was also held at Diyarbakır 5th Heavy Penal Court today. 2 to 10 year prison sentence is sought for Ata in this case for joining a funeral in Amed's Bismil district for her two cousins -Welat Argış (Beritan Tımok) and Şehriban Argış (Ruken Batman) who fell in the ranks of HPG in a clash in Bitlis in 2012.

It was announced during the hearing that the officer who was a police chief at that time and filed a criminal complaint against Ata has been suspended recently.

The court decided to get the testimony through SEGBİS of the complainant police officer after the location of his address, and postponed the hearing.
