72 year old Fatma Dinler said when she was taken to the police station, the officers who brought her in told the others, “Look, we got a terrorist for you.” Dinler, who has heart and blood pressure issues and diabetes, was held without food or water.
On June 24, Fatma Dinler (72) was on her way to vote when she was detained and later arrested for an outstanding fine and prison sentence she had. Dinler was released yesterday when she paid the fine. Dinler said she hadn’t been notified of the sentences, but the judge told her she had been “hiding all this time”.
HELD WITHOUT FOOD OR WATER
Dinler said the police talked about her and said, “Release her if they bring the fine, if not, throw her in the dungeon,” and added: “Like that, I was taken to Diyarbakır without food or water. When I arrived by the evening, the officers got out of the vehicle and told the others ‘Look, we got a terrorist for you’. That day I was held in the jail. I wasn’t given any food or water. I have diabetes and blood pressure and heart issues.”
“THEY ARE THE TRUE TERRORISTS”
Fatma Dinler was released after her relatives paid the fine. She said: “They are afraid of us the mothers. We are not ‘terrorists’. They can’t intimidate us like this. They are afraid of us. They say I am a terrorist because I said one slogan. I didn’t do anything wrong, neither did all the other arrested mothers. Even if I knew there was this outstanding sentence, I would have come to vote anyways. I am not the terrorist. The true terrorist is those that put me through this at this age.””
