7.645 women subjected to violence in 9 months in Bashur

The data for violence against women in Sulaymaniyah, Hewlêr, Dihok, Germiyan, Raperîn and Soran throughout the year has been announced.
The Center Against Violence Against Women has announced that violence against women has increased by 42.5% from July and August last year, and the biggest increase has been in Hewlêr.
According to an article by Roj News, the data for October and November is not ready yet so the first 9 months of the year have been reported. As there is no Center Against Violence Against Women in Halabja, the violence against women data was given over Sulaymaniyah.
According to the Center Against Violence Against Women, there have been 683 instances of violence against women in January. There has been a reported increase in incidents of burning and suspicious self-immolation from previous years.
The data announced by the center is as follows.
- The 683 cases in January were dispersed among provinces as: Hewlêr 34%, Dihok 21%, Suleymaniye 24%, Germiyan 10%, Raperîn 6%, Soran 3%. The biggest increase was in Dihok, while the most burning and suspicious self-immolation incidents were in Hewlêr.
- There have been 717 appeals of violence against women in February. The biggest increase from previous years was in cases of burning and suspicious self-immolation. The incidents were dispersed among provinces as: Hewlêr 32.9%, Dihok 25%, Sulaymaniyah 22%, Germiyan 8%, Raperîn 6%, Soran 4%.
- In March, the 651 cases of violence against women were dispersed among provinces as: Hewlêr 34%, Dihok 28%, Sulaymaniyah 20%, Germiyan 8%, Raperîn 5%, Soran 3%. The biggest increase in incidents of violence against women was in Dihok in March, while burnings and suspicious self-immolations increased in Hewlêr.
- In April, the 740 cases of violence against women were dispersed among provinces as: Hewlêr 38%, Dihok 22%, Sulaymaniyah 21%, Germiyan 6%, Raperîn 6%, Soran 4%. According to data not officially announced, the most incidents of burning and suspicious self-immolation happened in Hewlêr and Dihok, while the most cases of violence against women happened in Sulaymaniyah and Raperîn.
- In May, the 998 cases of violence against women were dispersed among provinces as: Hewlêr 30%, Dihok 25%, Sulaymaniyah 24%, Germiyan 9%, Raperîn 6%, Soran 3%. The most incidents of burning and suspicious self-immolation happened in Hewlêr again.
- In June, the 644 cases of violence against women were dispersed among provinces as: Hewlêr 38%, Dihok 25%, Sulaymaniyah 19%, Germiyan 8%, Raperîn 7%, Soran 3%. The most cases were burning, suspicious self-immolation, murder and sexual harassment.
- In July, the 1112 cases of violence against women were dispersed among provinces as: Hewlêr 37%, Dihok 27%, Sulaymaniyah 19%, Germiyan 8%, Raperîn 4%, Soran 2%. There was a big increase in burnings, suspicious self-immolation and sexual harassment cases in July. The biggest increase in burning and suspicious self-immolation was in Hewlêr, while the biggest increase in harassment and physical violence was in Sulaymaniyah.
- In August, the 1117 cases of violence against women were dispersed among provinces as: Hewlêr 30%, Dihok 22%, Sulaymaniyah 26%, Germiyan 8%, Raperîn 7%, Soran 3%. There was an increase in physical violence, harassment, attack, burning and suspicious self-immolation cases in August, with the biggest increase in Hewlêr again.
- In September, the 783 cases of violence against women were dispersed among provinces as: Hewlêr 30%, Dihok 28%, Sulaymaniyah 22%, Germiyan 11%, Raperîn 4%, Soran 2%.
The most incidents of violence against women happened in July and August this year. In 2017, there was an increase in cases from 2016 from 5.227 women to 7.645 women in 2017 - a 42.5% increase. There has been an increase of 2.218 in the number of cases as well.
