Every day new instances of torture against political prisoners comes to light. After Tarsus Type T Closed Women’s Prison infamous for torture, prisoners have now told their families that they are subjected to torture in Bayburt Type M Prison. Nudem Duran (26) who was arrested on charges of terrorist propaganda for the songs she sang and is currently held in Bayburt Type M Prison told her family in a visit that the prisoners are being tortured.
TORTURE IN THE WARD OF 68 WOMEN
Nudem Duran’s mother Hatice Duran stated that they can’t always visit their daughter because of the distance, but they went for the Eid and witnessed that their daughter had been tortured. Hatice Duran said: “My daughter is in the Bayburt Prison. I can’t visit so often because it’s so far away. For the first time in several months, I visited her for the Eid. During the visit, my daughter told me they were subjected to violence there. Due to arbitrary practices, the ward where 68 women stay is constantly subjected to violence.”
Duran said that on top of the torture, the wards are searched daily and at every hour and added: “My daughter said the administration wants to implement September 12 practices in the prison. We could feel the pressure even during the visit with my daughter. We as the prisoners’ relatives won’t stay silent in the face of this practice. The government imprisoned our children and made life hell for us. We will never accept them torturing our children behind those walls.”
“PRISONERS ARE OUR RED LINE”
Hatice Duran called on the human rights associations and conscious public against the pressure in prisons and said: “My daughter has been in prison for the last three years. She will be there for 18 more. Under such circumstances, it’s not possible to stay 2 more months, let alone 18 years. It’s not just my daughter who is tortured, it’s all the female prisoners. That is why I’m calling on everybody to support prisoners. Prisoners are the Kurdish people’s and the mothers’ red line. If they cross that line, we will launch all kinds of resistance.”
