12th Sakine Cansız Women's Festival to be held in Zurich

Organized by the Kurdish Women’s Union of Switzerland, the 12th Sakine Cansız Women's Festival will take place on 28 June in Zurich under the theme of women’s organization and cultural solidarity.

Held annually in memory of Sakine Cansız (Sara), one of the founding members of the PKK who was assassinated in France on 9 January 2013, the Sakine Cansız Women's Festival is being organized for the 12th time this year. The festival will take place on 28 June in the Kasernenareal area in Zurich, Switzerland, under the slogan: “With Jin, Jiyan, Azadî, we build a democratic organization.”

The festival is organized by the Kurdish Women’s Union of Switzerland (YJK-S), with contributions from numerous women's organizations.

Six assemblies, five communes, and five initiatives affiliated with YJK-S have essentially declared a mobilization, and most of the technical preparations have been completed.

Women are visiting homes and local businesses in their communities, distributing flyers, and inviting the public to the festival. Political parties and women’s organizations in Switzerland are also being visited to gather support for the event.

The artists who will perform at this year’s festival have also been announced. Women performers Sasa Serap, Jala, Zerifa Zerrin, Gulan, Silav Rojava, and Awaze Mitra, along with the Mizgîn Cultural Movement’s Koma Erbane, will take the stage.

In addition, a women’s dance group and the Kurdish Folklore Group of Switzerland will bring color to the festival. As in previous years, a traditional women’s dengbêj  tent will be set up.

There will be play areas and a Zarok Ma booth for children, as well as food stalls and information booths from women’s organizations available for visitors.
