Families of Turkish officers arrested by guerrillas call for peace

Families of arrested Turkish officers have re-voiced their demand for an end to the ongoing war, for which they hold the AKP government responsible for freezing the process of resolution and escalating the war further every day.

Guerrillas have arrested many members of the Turkish army and police during the process of war started by the Turkish state this year. Despite the state's efforts to make the public opinion forget about these detentions, families of those under arrest are resorting to political parties and NGOs, to ask for a resolution. Yet, the state has taken no single step in this regard so far.

ANF reporters have reached 8 of the Turkish officers who remain under arrest in guerrilla areas in South Kurdistan territory. Two of these are police officers, and the other six are members of the Turkish army. Members of Turkish security forces called for peace in the new year through ANF's interview.

In the wake of the report by ANF, families of arrested Turkish officers have re-voiced their demand for an end to the ongoing war, for which they hold the AKP government responsible for freezing the process of resolution and escalating the war further every day.

Family of soldier Muslüm Altıntaş, who was arrested during a road control by guerrillas on Dersim-Erzincan road on 2 October 2015, said their happiness over seeing their son's image was inexpressible.

Altıntaş family, who are originally from Urfa's Halfeti district and live in Antep, called for a resolution to stop the ongoing bloodshed in the country.

Father Şevket Altıntaş (46) said he has watched his son's video again and again since it was published by ANF yesterday.

'THIS WAR IS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE CHIEFS'

Altıntaş said he has uttered screams of joy since he heard from his son yesterday, and thanked everyone who enabled them to watch this video of their son. "This is a war in which only the chiefs are awarded and only the poor are victimized. This is a problem of the whole country, not only mine. Nobody in these lands is enemy to any other. We are afraid to talk even under the rule of 'superior minds' that guide our individuality and idea. We will not get any better unless we get rid of these people. We should therefore avoid being their puppets. This war must be ended and peace must be attained, whatever it takes. We want to reunite with our children."

'I WENT TO ANKARA BUT THEY DID NOTHING'

Father of police officer Vedat Kaya, who was detained by guerrillas in Amed, also voiced great happiness for seeing his son safe and sound 6 months later.

Father Şehmus Kaya (57), who lives in Mardin's Derik district, said he went to Ankara and talked to AKP and state officials 3-4 times since capture of his son. He told the followings; "I sold my cow and borrowed some money to afford the travel to Ankara. I told them everything but the officials did nothing, provided no assistance. They didn't look at our faces even. Me and my wife are both old, we can do nothing to ensure the return of our son. We just want this war to end. This year has been a year of atrocity in entire Kurdistan region. May God damn the responsible."

'THE STATE IS DOING WRONG'

Elder brother of soldier Süleyman Sungur who was detained in Bingöl's Kiği town on 15 August, similarly stressed that they were very happy to see their son months later.

İlhan Sungur (28) also called for an end to the ongoing war, adding; "We know very well who is responsible for this situation; it is those who ended the process of resolution. I am calling out to the President and the Prime Minister; you are doing wrong. You should follow the true path by taking a step for peace and returning to the resolution process to end this war. It is explicit who has carried this war up to this point. I want to see my brother. I want an urgent peace and his release."
