YPJ fighter and civilian woman killed by Turkish attack in Qamishlo laid to rest

Turkey’s increasingly ongoing attacks against North-East Syria claim more lives every day.

Masses bid farewell to YPJ (Women’s Defense Units) fighter Rehîme Xezalê (Mizgîn Botan) and civilian Kîsra Melek who were killed in an attack by Turkish UCAV in the Qamishlo city of northern Syria on May 30.

The funeral was attended by numerous people, including members of military and civil institutions and the women’s movement Kongra Star.

Speaking at the ceremony, Şemsêxan Gulo, a member of Qamishlo Council of Martyrs’ Families, extended condolences to the families of martyrs and called for unity against the Turkish occupying state and allied mercenaries.

“Erdoğan’s warplanes will never be able to break our will. We will continue resisting based on Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s ideas, philosophy and the struggle for freedom. We will enhance the struggle until we have achieved victory,” Gulo said.

Speaking after, Mihemed Zêdan, one of the commanders of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), denounced the Turkish regime’s crimes against the people in North-East Syria and the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

Mihemed Zêdan reiterated their promise to follow in the footsteps of the martyrs, emphasizing that they would always be ready for the safety and peace of North-East Syria.

Following the speeches, the death certificates of Botan and Melek were handed over to their families and the two women were laid to rest.
