SDF: Let this Newroz mark the beginning of a new era in Syria

“May this Newroz herald the beginning of a new era in Syria, just as the Kurdish New Year and the arrival of spring symbolize renewal and hope,” said the SDF.

The Press Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) released a statement on the occasion of Newroz, Kurdish New Year, on 21 March.

The SDF statement on Thursday includes the following:

“We extend our warmest congratulations to the Kurdish people, the Syrian people, and the world on the occasion of Newroz. We also salute our steadfast fighters who stand on the homeland’s frontiers, safeguarding its security and stability. May this Newroz herald the beginning of a new era in Syria, just as the Kurdish New Year and the arrival of spring symbolize renewal and hope.

Newroz carries profound meanings of resistance and peace. Its flame represents victory over injustice and the pursuit of security and stability, values that belong to all the peoples of the region, expressing on this day their joy at achieving freedom. Today, we aspire to embody the essence of Newroz in Syria, guiding the nation toward a future of unity, safety, and prosperity. We envision a Syria where division and conflict cease, and where love and brotherhood—rooted in justice, equality, and mutual acceptance—prevail. A Syria where all citizens contribute to its reconstruction, displaced persons and refugees return to their homes, and a new chapter in our homeland’s history begins—one that affirms Syria belongs to all Syrians, with no marginalization or exclusion.

Just as Newroz signifies a deep connection to the land and homeland, we must uphold its historical values by protecting our people from all threats, restoring societal cohesion, and reviving the spirit of resilience. This is a time to reclaim what has been lost throughout the years of the Syrian crisis.

Once again, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all on this Newroz. May this national holiday be celebrated in an atmosphere of joy and renewal, as we turn a dark page in Syria’s history and open a new one, ushering in a brighter future.”
