The European Forum for Freedom and Peace, launched the new campaign "I Want to Visit Öcalan".
A new campaign was launched by the European Forum for Freedom and Peace (EFFP). The campaign is called "I Want to Visit Öcalan", and the organizers "call on the international public to support the current process for democracy and peace in Turkey through the resolution of the Kurdish Question. In doing so, we recognize the historic opportunity created by Mr. Abdullah Öcalan in his February 27th call for “Peace and a Democratic Society”, and the necessity of his full participation in such a process going forward. It is clear that this opportunity offers a strong basis not only for peace, but also for the realization of freedom, equality, justice and democracy – in other words, for a genuine solution to the century-old Kurdish Question."
The EFFP added: "For such a resolution to be possible, the obstacles preventing Mr. Öcalan from sharing his vision for the future of Turkey, Kurdistan, the Middle East and even the world, which he has been preparing for years, must be removed. Concretely, this in part can be achieved through allowing members of the international public—academics, artists, politicians, journalists, activists, and others—to visit Mr. Öcalan, learn first-hand about his ideas and proposals for the construction of a more livable world."
The EFFP "invite all those who wish to play an active role in promoting peace through an end to Mr. Öcalan’s isolation to send emails, letters and public appeals to the Turkish Ministry of Justice to request permission to visit the Imrali Island Prison, both institutionally and individually.
Along with written statements, requests can take the form of short video messages, expressing the intent to visit Mr. Öcalan and briefly stating why his freedom and ability to share his ideas is important in today’s world. These videos should be short (0:30 - 2:00), and can be shared via social media."
For requests sent by email, please CC [email protected] so that the EFFP can track how many requests have been sent.
Emails should be addressed to the Minister of Justice of Turkey E-Mail: [email protected].
