Under attack by the Turkish state, the Tishrin Dam has become a critical point of concern. In an effort to prevent a potential disaster at the dam, residents of the region have been holding a vigil there for 13 days. On Tuesday, the Turkish state carried out an assault on the area, killing two people and injuring more than 20 others, including four journalists.
The Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria issued a written statement regarding the attack, urging the international community to take action.
The statement emphasized that targeting civilians holding a resistance vigil to protect the Tishrin Dam, as well as attacking critical infrastructure, constitutes a blatant violation of international and humanitarian laws.
Highlighting the dam’s vital importance as a hub for water and energy resources, the statement noted that these attacks are worsening the hardships experienced by the local community.
The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria said: "This attack is a clear threat to the peace and security of the region. Targeting the Tishrin Dam, which is strategically important as a source of water and energy, underscores policies aimed at destroying vital infrastructure. We call on the international community, legal and humanitarian organizations to immediately take action to put an end to these attacks."
The statement concluded with condolences to the families of those killed in the attack and wishes for a swift recovery for the injured.
