Şahin: Turkey tries to complete occupation of Serêkaniyê and Girê Spi through special operations

Euphrates Region Executive Council co-chair Mihemed Şahin said that the Turkish state carried out special operations to complete the occupation of Serêkaniyê and Girê Spi.

Euphrates Region Executive Council co-chair Mihemed Şahin pointed out that Erdogan's statements about resettling one million refugees in Syria are the officialization of the occupation and said, "This change, which is not a new development, is a change of history." Referring to Russia's silent attitude towards all these activities of the Turkish state, Şahin evaluated this situation as a bilateral alliance.

Mihemed Şahin answered ANF's questions.

The Turkish state has increased its attacks on Northern and Eastern Syria. What kind of picture emerges when we look at the attacks carried out since the 17-22 October agreements?

The Turkish state and its partners' operations against Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî, and the "ceasefire agreements" between the US-Turkey and Russia-Turkey, which were signed to stop the military operations, did not stop the attacks against the region. The attacks by the Turkish state and its mercenaries against the region continue on a daily basis. As everyone knows, the SDF retreated 30 km to prove that the Turkish state's "border security" was an excuse. Although there is no military action or force in an area of 30 km, the Turkish state continues to attack our regions.

The aim of the Turkish state is not 'national border security'. Since the beginning of the Syrian crisis and our revolution, there has been no danger on our side towards the borders of the Turkish state. Under the leadership of Erdogan, the plans of the AKP government are to spread Neo-Ottomanism and expand its sovereignty to the Middle East through Syria. Turkey wants to destroy the Autonomous Administration and our democratic system by weakening the peace and stability in its regions. It wants to establish a radical system through its mercenaries instead of the Democratic Autonomous system. The daily attacks against Northern and Eastern Syria are part of this political plan.

Is it likely to imagine more extensive invasion attacks against the region?

Since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, the Turkish state wanted to establish its sovereignty in Syria through its radical mercenaries. Unable to achieve this, it stepped in with his own army. It took action in Idlib, Afrin, Ezaz, Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî. Although in Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî, Turkey could not openly continue their operations because the international reactions during the occupation processes, they switched to other methods, such as special operations.

These special operations, which are carried out creating confusion and prompting a migration wave in the region by targeting Autonomous Administration institutions and civilian settlements, are an attempt to complete the invasion operation in Serêkaniyê and Girê Spi. This is the purpose of air and ground attacks. Turkey seeks to create the opportunity for a new wide-ranging military operation. If the Turkish state establishes an international political ground and is confident in this matter, it will launch a new major operation in these regions.

How should the situation in Kobanê, which is the target of occupation attacks, be seen. What is the aim of these attacks and the 'Kobanê Conspiracy Case'?

The Turkish state is avenging its mercenaries. Everyone knows that world terror was broken in Kobanê. The Turkish state relied on ISIS to seize Kobanê and North East Syria. It aimed to rule in these regions through ISIS. With the support of the Kurdish people, especially our people living in North Kurdistan, the resistance that broke ISIS has made democratic and libertarian forces around Kobanê prevail. The AKP government is taking revenge for ISIS that was efeate in Kobanê in 2015 by detaining everyone with the 'Kobanê Case'. He is taking this revenge by attacking everyone who contributed to the defeat of ISIS.

Today, the Turkish state openly carry armed drone attacks on the region. Is there anything Russia, the guarantor power in the region, conveyed to you in this regard?

We have had many applications and calls to the Russian forces. According to their alliance with our military forces, they are responsible for the security of the region. However, their attitudes do not convince us. They remain silent politically and militarily about the attacks on these regions. This raises suspicion. Russia should respond to the Turkish state according to its responsibility and the alliance made.

Recently, we have had applications to get answers from the Russian forces at the point of attacks against our regions, especially by armed drones. We were always told that it was not clear who launched the attacks. The Turkish state did not take responsibility for these attacks at first. Recently, it does. This shows that there are some alliances made behind the scenes between the Turkish state and the guarantor powers in the region. The Turkish state openly takes responsibility for the attacks in line with this alliance. Despite taking responsibility for these attacks and violating the 'ceasefire agreement', Russia does not do anything. This raises the suspicion that some alliances are being made behind the scenes.

After Erdogan's statements about the resettling of one million refugees, eyes were turned to the occupied areas. It is known that a demographic change in the region is already underway. Where does Turkey wants to arrive with these statements?

The Turkish state started to carry out a demographic change in Idlib, Jarablus, Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî from day one of their occupation. This is not a new development. Persons who are not citizens of this region are settled there. The mercenaries and their families brought to the region were settled there. Non-Syrian mercenaries and their families were also settled there. The Turkish regime officially declares this. Turkey wants to change history and historical geography by replacing Kurds with other peoples.

What are you doing against all this? What are the responsibilities of society?

Fighting against this situation is the main duty and strategy of the Autonomous Administration. We have decided on this. We will do our best, diplomatically, politically and in all respects, with our legitimate rights. We are fighting not only to stop the demographic change, but also to end the Turkish occupation in Syria. This situation is always within our plans and targets.

We only have a call to our people. The purpose of the Turkish state's attack on our regions is to break the will of our people and the gains they have made. It is the fragmentation of peace among the people’s components living in the region. Our people should unite and increase their struggle against this.
