40 drivers on strike in Iran and Rojhilat detained

Truck drivers went on strike in Iran and Rojhilat after their demands in response to cuts in fuel quotas, increases in insurance premiums, low rental fees, rising maintenance costs, and inadequate safety measures were not met.

The Iranian Human Rights Organization announced that Iranian state forces have detained at least 40 drivers without court orders during a 16-day truck drivers' strike in Rojhilat (Eastern Kurdistan) and Iran.

The strike began in response to demands that drivers had been voicing for a long time but which had not been met. Cuts in fuel quotas, increases in insurance premiums, low rental fees, rising maintenance costs, and inadequate safety measures were among the main reasons for the strike.

The Iranian Human Rights Organization emphasized that the detentions lacked legal basis.

The organization also stated that the drivers would continue their strike until the Pezeshkian government met their demands, but that no concrete response had been received from the authorities so far.

Meanwhile, activists and civil society representatives from Eastern Kurdistan and different parts of Iran called on the public to show solidarity with the striking drivers. According to reports, 11 Kurdish drivers have been imprisoned in recent days.
