2 workers attacked in Uşak for speaking Kurdish are in critical condition and have been under intensive care for the past 5 days. The attackers, however, were released.
Two construction workers, Eren Sömer (26) and Ufuk Çelik (28) were attacked and stabbed for speaking Kurdish in a park located across from the Uşak Governorate building on İsmetpaşa Avenue in Uşak. First, a private security firm employee warned the workers and asked them to leave the park. When the workers insisted on staying at the park, police officers questioned them and checked their criminal backgrounds. Officers left the park after finding out that the workers’ backgrounds were clean, but three people stabbed the workers as they were heading home.
Eren Sömer was stabbed in his neck, stomach and chest, and Ufuk Çelik was stabbed in his back and stomach. Sömer and Çelik are in critical condition and have been under intensive care.
When the workers’ families went to the police headquarters in order to receive information, officers first told the families that the attackers were sober but later said that both sides were drunk. The attackers were set free on probation despite the critical condition of the workers.
