The 2023 Newroz is celebrated with the slogan ‘Her der Newroz her dem azadî’ (‘Newroz always, Freedom everywhere’) and "Freedom with the fire of Newroz".

Newroz this year is dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives in the two Maraş-centered earthquakes that hit Kurdistan, Turkey and Syria on 6 February.

Newroz in Istanbul has been held in Yenikapı Square.

Led by the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) and the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), the Newroz celebration saw the participation of thousands of people who had left different boroughs of Istanbul since the early hours of the morning.

While the people were undergoing a security search in the square, some parts of the Yenikapı Marmaray Metro entrance were closed by the police, with entrance allowed from the Aksaray exit.

Despite the torrential rain, thousands of people attended the celebration in Yenikapı Square. Young people chanted slogans such as "Bijî Serok Apo" and "Bê Serok jiyan na be".
