Thousands of people came from all cities of Switzerland and met in Lucerne to celebrate Newroz. This year’s slogan at all Newroz celebrations is "Freedom for Öcalan, a political solution to the Kurdish question". Thousands of people gathered at Newroz and demanded freedom for Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Swiss Democratic Kurdish Community Centers co-chairs Hüseyin Mamaklı and Selma Sürer were the first to speak at the celebration. In their speech, they celebrated the Newroz of the Kurdish people, drawing attention to the isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and demanding his release.

Tevgera Ciwanên Şoreşger members entered the hall accompanied by "Freedom for Öcalan" slogans.

Call from Aydar to Iraq

KCK Executive Council member Zübeyir Aydar spoke about the military genocide attacks that the Turkish state was preparing against Medya Defense Areas. Underlining the talks that recently took place between the Turkish state and Iraq, Aydar called on Iraq not to be a party to the Turkish state's genocidal war. Aydar said that the Turkish state's goal is not the PKK, but the occupation of the region as a whole, and criticized the policies of the KDP.
