Seven people jailed in İzmir for protesting the referendum fraud

Out of the 21 people who were detained during a protest demo against the referendum fraud in İzmir on April 17, seven have been jailed.

21 people who were detained during a protest demo against the rigged referendum results in İzmir's Bornova district on April 17 have been referred to prosecutor's office to testify today afternoon.

Following their testimony, 10 of the detainees were released on condition of judicial control, while 11 others were referred to court with a demand for their arrest for “insulting the President”. 4 of the 11 detainees were released by court, again on condition of judicial control, and the other 7 were remanded in custody for the same charges.

Demonstrators and families of the jailed youths protested the decision outside the courthouse, chanting “Pressures will not intimidate us”.
