Labor, Democracy and Freedom Block's Istanbul Candidate Sebahat Tuncel stated that none of the block's candidates will get into the parliament without Hatip Dicle whose election has not yet been confirmed because of a pending imprisonment sentence given to him shortly before the general election on June 12. Tuncel said; "The procedure applied in my situation must also be adopted in the case of all prisoners."
Tuncel said the followings; "What this result puts forward is that our peoples should give a common struggle. The centers of all parties should hear the message given here; to create a strong opposition against the power. Dear prime minister, you shall not be happy to get 49 percent of the votes because you did not have a strong opposition against you. But, we are here now. With the strength we take from our people, we will be standing against you as the main opposition."
Reminding of the meeting with Hatip Dicle yesterday, Tuncel added; "They are still trying to prevent the right and the success our companion has gained. We announce it here that we will not go to the parliament if they create barriers before our companion. This is a truth, not a threat. Our companion was formerly elected but he was forcibly taken out of the parliament and held in prison for 10 years. Now, he has once more gained this right and should he be prevented again, we will surely not get into their parliament. I myself was also taken out of the prison by you. The procedure applied in my situation has to be adopted now for all prisoners, as a requirement of democracy."
Referring to the importance of election of Turkish laborers and socialists, Tüzel said; "The election results are at the same time a message from the Kurdish people to Turkish public opinion and laborers. This is a message of solidarity and brotherhood which must be read correctly. What we, the Block's candidates, must do now is to actualize this message and to do what is necessary. Our first step will surely be to try to build a party of the block. We promise our people to be the voice of laborers, education in mother-tongue and women's liberation movement. We demand the release of all Kurdish people's representatives and democracy-defenders who were arrested under the name of KCK operation. Besides, there are reappearing powers that can't tolerate the achievement of Kurds; the situation of Kurdish youngsters who have been killed recently in Sivas, for example. Aware of all these developments, we promise peace, freedom and democracy to our people."
