SDF fighters reach the western entrance of Raqqa

SDF fighters have reached the western entrance of Raqqa after clearing the Tall Harqalah Castle of the gangs.

YPG-led Syrian Democratic Forces have reached Raqqa from the western and eastern sides following the announcement of the launch of 'Great Battle for Raqqa' earlier today.

SDF forces started to advance towards Raqqa city center in the afternoon. The fighters advancing through the western direction cleared the strategic Tall Harqalah Castle of ISIS gangs following fierce clashes. Several ISIS members were killed during the fighting but the exact number of casualties is not clear yet.

Wrath of Euphrates fighters had entered the city from the eastern front at 16:00 Tuesday afternoon.

Tall Harqalah Castle dating back to the Roman Empire, built on a 10 km field with 4 towers, is 6 meter high. The castle surrounded with circular walls was turned into a palace by Harun Al-Rashid.
