Protest against the silence of the UN continues in Geneva

The weekly protest of Kurdish activists in front of the UN building in Geneva focused on the cross-border invasion of South Kurdistan by the Turkish military. The participants condemned the silence of the UN.

Since the end of January, Kurds have been protesting every Wednesday in front of the UN headquarters in Geneva against the silence of the international community regarding the actions of the Turkish state against the Kurdish people and their liberation movement. The central issue is the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan in the island prison of Imrali. Even after 22 years of imprisonment, the PKK founder is still considered a key figure for a solution to the Kurdish question and a democratization of Turkey.

Today's protest focused on the current military invasion of the Turkish army in the guerrilla areas in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). The participants expressed solidarity with the resistance of the guerrillas in the Medya Defense Zones and observed a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs.

Salih Sağlam, co-chair of the Kurdish People's Council in Geneva, said in a speech, "Just as in February in Gare, the Turkish occupying army will fail today because of the guerrillas' resistance. It is our responsibility to stand behind this struggle against the occupation. This struggle is not only the Kurdish people's concern, but also the struggle of all the peoples of the Middle East who want to live freely on their own soil."

Sağlam continued: "The UN ignores the massive resistance of the Kurdish people against the occupation. In the face of the UN's silence, we will continue to raise the struggle of the guerrillas and the Kurdish people everywhere and continue our 'Time for Freedom' campaign. Through this struggle, Abdullah Öcalan and Kurdistan will be liberated."
