Protest against the isolation of Öcalan in Amed

Political parties and civil society organizations in Amed protested the Imrali isolation and saluted the prison resistance in Turkey’s prisons.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Amed (Diyarbakir) Provincial Organization was set to make a statement in front of the Koşuyolu Park Human Rights Monument in Bağlar district in order to raise concern over the hunger strikes on the 125th day in Turkish prisons to denounce the isolation on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan. The police surrounded members and administrators of the Free Women's Movement (TJA), Democratic Regions Party (DBP), HDP, Association for Solidarity with Detainees’ Families (TUAY-DER), Mesopotamia Language and Culture Research Association (MED-DER) at the park entrance.

While the police threatened that "no statement would be allowed", the crowd responded with the slogan "Bijî berxwedana zindana" [Long live the prison resistance].

The demonstrators started a sit-in protest and chanted the slogans "Biji berxwedana to zindana" and "Greetings, greetings, thousand greetings to the prisons". The isolation was protested with applause and ululations, and the prison resistance was saluted.

The police tried to prevent the journalists from taking pictures.
