International Workers' Day: Police take scores into custody in Istanbul

All roads leading to Taksim Square and Istiklal Caddesi have been closed to prevent people reaching the square for International Workers’ Day. The police, detained many people.

Diren University, SODAP, and the Youth Council activists came together in Mecidiyeköy and begna to march towards Taksim Square. The police immediately attacked the people and detained 19 activists.

Limter-İş General chair Kanber Saygılı and ESP co-chair Şahin
Tümüklü are among those detained.

Workers' Representatives Council and the Labor Force members who marched in Tarlabaşı with a banner saying "May Day is in Taksim" were detained by the police.

In Osmanbey, the police attacked university students who were marching towards Taksim with a banner saying "We will win from campus to the street" and detained all the students.

Police also attacked members of the Revolutionary Anarchist Federation, who marched from Kazancı to Taksim and detained many people.
