Bianet reporters Tuğçe Yılmaz and Ali Dinç were attacked by the police while covering the Newroz celebration at the Yenikapı Meeting Area in Istanbul. Turkish police also tried to detain Kurdish editor Aren Yıldırım.

The police attacked the crowd and detained many people while the area was being evacuated. The police first tried to prevent reporter Tuğçe Yılmaz, who was filming the crowd, with the warning "No filming allowed" and then forced the journalist to the ground. The police pressed on journalist Tuğçe Yılmaz's throat and beat her. Reporter Ali Dinç was also attacked and prevented by the police.
