PKK Executive Committee issued a written statement on the martyrdom of Deniz Gezmiş, Hüseyin İnan and Yusuf Aslan. In its statement, the PKK described freedom, equality, justice and moral-political values as the pillars of a society, and said that history has been comprised of the struggle between sovereign and colonial forces attacking these values and social groups and pioneers defending these values. PKK said that its members salute comrades Deniz Gezmiş, Hüseyin İnan and Yusuf Aslan on the 44th anniversary of their execution for their struggle against the Turkish state’s fascist barbarism.
OUR MOVEMENT CARRIES ON THEIR LEGACY
The PKK described Deniz Gezmiş and his comrades as the symbol of Turkey’s people’s search for freedom and equality, and said that Leader Apo describes the revolutionary resistance in Kurdistan as the necessity of carrying out the three martyrs’ legacy. The Executive Committee said that the ideals of Deniz, Hüseyin and Yusuf are embodied in the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, which has become an important regional force with the Rojava Revolution and the self-rule resistance.
The PKK Committee described May as the month of martyrs for both Kurdistan and Turkey, and recalled the martyrdoms of Mehmet Karasungur and İbrahim Bilgin on May 2, 1982, Gurbet Aydın on May 11, 1992, and Ferzad Kemanger, Şirin Elemhuli, Ferhat Wekili and Eli Heyderiyan on May 9, 2010. The PKK said that the resistance of martyrs has not been embodied in the self-rule resistance in Silopi, Sur, Gever, Cizre, Nusaybin, and Şırnak, and showed that another world is possible.
LEADER APO’S STANCE IN İMRALI CALLS FOR RESISTANCE AGAINST CRUELTY
PKK Executive Committee said that the gangs of fascist AKP destroy and burn everything in Kurdistan because of their heavy losses, but the resistance of martyrs would not kneel down but reach victory in the face of oppression. The PKK recalled the assassination attempt on Abdullah Öcalan on May 6, 1996, on the anniversary of Deniz, Hüseyin and Yunus’ execution as well as Kerbela massacre, and condemned this attempt. The Executive Committee stated that Leader Apo’s stance in İmralı calls for resistance against cruelty, and called upon everyone that wanted to live freely to unite their forces and expand the struggle for ending AKP fascism during the new period of resistance.
Lastly, the PKK commemorated the recent martyrdom of fighters such as Azad Sîser and Çekdar Amed in May 2016, and said that it would reach victory and make sure that martyrdoms have not been in vain.
