37 people were taken into custody on the grounds of posts shared on social media about the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem Imamoğlu on Wednesday.
Following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem Imamoğlu, and over 100 other people, on Wednesday, dozens of people were taken into custody on the grounds of posts they shared on social media.
The Minister of Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, confirmed that 37 people were detained on the grounds of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility" and "inciting to commit a crime."
Yerlikaya said that 18 million 647 thousand 269 posts were shared about the IMM operation, adding: "A total of 261 suspicious account owners, 62 of whom abroad, considered to have made these posts, have been identified."
