Norwegian Rødt party: Protect Kurdish activists!

The Norwegian Rødt party condemned the Paris attack and called on the government to protect the Kurdish community.

On Friday 23 December, three Kurdish activists were killed at a Kurdish cultural center in Paris.

The Norwegian Rødt (Red) party condemned the attack in a written statement underlining that "this is not the first time Kurdish activists in exile have been attacked with deadly violence.  In 2013, three Kurdish women activists were murdered in France.

In Norway, we have previously seen how Kurdish demonstrations and symbols have been met with provocations and attacks, including from circles that support Turkish military power and the oppression of Kurds."

The statement continued: "The Kurds have been in a long-standing struggle against oppression and violent attacks, especially coming from the Turkish regime.  Since November, Kurdish areas have been subjected to massive military attacks from both Turkey and Iran. More than 200 people have been killed by bombs, drones and heavy artillery.  And now we see that Kurds in exile are also being attacked directly.

The Kurds are fighting for freedom, democracy and equality, and in that fight they need support and protection.  Whether the fight is in Iran, Turkey, Paris or Oslo, Red Oslo stands with the Kurds."

The party demanded "increased protection for Kurdish activists in Norway, that Kurds in Norway are protected against attacks by Turkish and Iranian intelligence, and that no Kurds be handed over to Erdogan's regime in Turkey.  Norway must provide protection and residence to Kurdish activists on the run."
