A memorial was held for Viyan Amara, a Kurdish language teacher who was martyred in Gire Spî during the defense of Kobanê from Jabhat al Nusra gangs, on the sixth anniversary of her martyrdom. The memorial was held in the Martyrs Rodi and Perwin Library with Martyrs' Families Assembly members, Kurdish language teachers and representatives from the Democratic Autonomous Administration.

The memorial started with a minute's silence. Martyrs' Families Assembly Administrator Sileman Sileman said, "Martyr Viyan worked hard to teach children Kurdish since the beginning of the Rojava Revolution, which the hegemons wanted to destroy." Sileman said Martyr Viyan worked to defend the people's freedom and humane values:

"Martyr Viyan left her books and pens behind when Jabhat al Nusra attacked Gire Spi and advanced towards Kobanê, and took up arms to defend the people from barbaric attacks. She sacrificed herself to defend the people, the country and the children. Today we have achieved many gains and victories thanks to the martyrs and our new generations can read and write in their own language."

After the speeches, participants sang songs of martyrs.

The ceremony concluded with a video screening on how Viyan Amara joined the Kurdistan Freedom Struggle and her efforts for the Kurdish language in Rojava.
