Leader of Kurdistan Communist Party taken into custody

Turkish police have taken into custody Sinan Çiftyürek, the leader of the Kurdistan Communist Party (KKP).

KKP leader Sinan Çiftyürek was detained following a raid on his house in Amed on Wednesday morning.

Çiftyürek was taken to the Provincial Security Directorate.

Çiftyürek was reportedly taken into custody for posts he shared on social media about the occupation of Northern and Eastern Syria.

In a statement posted on the KKP Twitter account it was said that "Our chairman Sinan Çiftyürek was taken into custody at around 5 am this morning while in his house. We demand the immediate release our President."
