Kurds in Armenia take to the streets for Öcalan

A mass march and rally took place for Kurdish People's Leader Abullah Öcalan in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.

Following the rumours about the life of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, the Kurdistan Committee and the Free Women's Union organized a mass rally in Yerevan.

Armenians also attended the march which started in the city center and continued until the UN representation office in the Opera Square.

The activists chanted slogans "Long Live Leader Apo", "Be Serok Jiyan Na be", "Fascist Turkey" and "Fascist Erdogan".

During the rally held in front of the UN office, Kurdistan Committee co-chairs Silo Dırboyan and Ila Tovmasyan, Şewra Gelê Kurd co-chair and MP Kınyaz Hasanov, Free Women's Union and Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) member Jeya Qadir and Yazidi Sheikh Tahır made speeches.

The speakers stressed that the Kurdish People's Leader is their "red line" and called for an immediate meeting with him.

The activists also called on international institutions and governments, especially the UN and the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), to fulfill their duties.

It was reported that a Newroz fire would be lit on March 20.
