Kurdish people rally in Basel: Öcalan is our red line

Hundreds of Kurdish people took to the streets in Switzerland and joined a demonstration demanding freedom for Öcalan, and giving the message: "Öcalan is our reason for peace and war.”

Kurdish people and their friends held a demonstration in Basel, Switzerland organised by the Kurdish youth organisations Ciwanên Azad (Free Youths) and Jinên Ciwanên Azad (Free Young Women) to protest the aggravated isolation on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and demand his freedom.

Hundreds gathered at Dreirosenbrück Square and marched from there to the Caserne Square, carrying banners that read "Freedom for Öcalan", pictures of the Kurdish leader, flags of PKK, KCK, YPG and YPJ, and chanting slogans " Freedom for Öcalan", "Long Live Leader Apo" and "Murderer Erdoğan". Demonstrators called on everyone to take to the streets for Öcalan.

The march ended at the Caserne Square where a rally was held. A speech on behalf of Ciwanên Azad-Switzerland stressed that Kurdish youths will never refrain from struggling for Öcalan under any circumstance.

Speaking after, Fuat Kömür on behalf of Democratic Kurdish Society Center in Switzerland mentioned the Turkish state’s genocidal policies against Kurdistan and stressed that defending Öcalan’s freedom means defending the freedom of all the peoples in the Middle East.

Calling attention to the growth and progress of the Kurdish freedom struggle since the August 15 Initiative of 1984, Kömür said: “Everyone knows that the Middle East is taking shape with the ideas of Leader Öcalan today. The Turkish state is subjecting Öcalan to further isolation as his ideas spring to life in the Middle East. However, everyone should know that the Kurdish people will never stop demanding freedom for their leader, no matter what.”
