Kurdish hunger striker in Berlin hospitalized on day 69 of fast

Xelil was taken to the Charite hospital’s emergency room and his condition is still critical.

Siyar Xelil, who has been on a hunger strike in Berlin, Germany along with 3 other activists demanding an end to the isolation, was hospitalized.

Omer Bagdur, Cemal Kobane, Siyar Xelil and Mele Mustafa Tuzak, the four Kurdish activists who had started a hunger strike in 3 cities in Germany to support the hunger strike launched by DTK Co-chair Leyla Guven, had decided to continue their protest in Berlin.

As the activists continue the protest in an RV parked in the square between the Federal Parliament and the Prime Ministry, Siyar Xelil took a turn for the worse at noon today and fell.

Xelil was picked up by other hunger strikers, and an ambulance was called. He was taken to the Charite hospital’s emergency room and his condition is still critical.

Siyar Xelil, from Derik in Rojava Kurdistan, was in Nuremberg before moving the hunger strike to Berlin. Xelil is on day 69 of the hunger strike and had called on the Federal German Government through the ANF before.

Xelil said everybody should be aware and conscious for democracy and humanity and issued a call:

“We want the public to be more aware of the isolation imposed upon our Leader. We believe our voice will be heard better in Berlin as it is the capital. We will prevail.”
