Kurdish activist collects 7000 signatures for the PKK in Cyprus

Kurdish activist Ismet Timurtürkan has collected 7000 signatures in Cyprus for the delisting of the PKK as a terrorist organization. The father of seven is suffering from cancer and thinks it is time to fight for his own dignity.

In Cyprus, signatures have been collected for three months for the international campaign to remove the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) from the list of terrorist organizations. The campaign for the delisting of the Kurdish liberation movement was launched last November by the international initiative Justice for Kurds and is directed at the Council of the European Union. The goal is four million signatures for the removal of the PKK from the "terror list." The campaign petition can also be signed online.

Ismet Timurtürkan has lived in Cyprus for 18 years and has collected 7,000 signatures for the campaign so far. The man from Suruç had to leave Turkey for political reasons and is the father of seven children. He has liver cancer and is waiting for a transplant. However, his illness does not stop him from his political activity. He collects signatures on the street, at markets, in shopping malls and even during his medical treatments in the hospital.

Timurtürkan said that his goal is to collect 10,000 signatures, stating: "The war in Kurdistan is exposing our people to genocide. The only force resisting this is the PKK. The world must finally understand this. In such a time, I cannot stand back as a Kurd. I cannot think of my health when young people are giving their lives in battle in the mountains. All Kurds have the responsibility to support the struggle against fascism, barbarism and occupation. It is not the time to sit at home or worry about your own material comfort. Rather, it is time to stand up for one's dignity."
