In a written statement, the KCDK-E Co-Presidency Council said: “ISIS mercenaries supported by the genocidal Turkish state carried out massacres on 3 August 2014 against our Yazidi people in Shengal. Today, the invading Turkish state is pursuing the same goals.”

The statement added: “The people of Shengal, who have experienced great suffering and massacre in front of the whole world, have given hundreds of martyrs and preserved their land managing to rebuild life for a bright future. Our Yazidi people are struggling to make their longing for freedom and their dreams come true in Shengal.

Thousands of Yazidi who migrated under the persecution of ISIS mercenaries, who abducted women and girls, are now struggling to rebuild life with their own councils and autonomous governments.

The statement added: “It should be reminded that genocide is a crime against humanity. Occupation is a crime in terms of international law. At first, the Iraqi government, the United Nations and international institutions and powers should take urgent steps to recognise the Yazidi’ status.

The Yazidi, who are always at risk of genocide and massacre, should be given status and should be protected by international law.”

The KCDK-E called on people “to act with the spirit of national unity against the ongoing threats of genocide and massacre against the Yazidi and join the actions that will take place in many cities on the anniversary of the 3 August 2014 genocide attack.

The KCDK-E, together with SMJE and TJK-E, will lead our people in Canada, Australia and Europe on 3 August.”
