Tensions are high in Shengal following an attack by the Iraqi army against fighters of the Shengal Resistance Units, YBŞ and deployment of troops to the Yazidi town.
The Iraqi army ambushed a vehicle carrying YBŞ (Shengal Resistance Units) fighters in the Yarmouk neighborhood of Shengal last night. YBŞ Press and Communication Center announced that 3 fighters were wounded, one of them seriously.
Following the attack, the Iraqi army deployed a large number of troops to the center of Shengal. The tension and state of emergency in the region continues.
In the face of the provocation attempts by Iraqi forces, the Shengal Autonomous Administration was set to move from Serdesht, located in the foothills of Mount Shengal, to Shengal city center. The convoy was blocked at the Iraqi army checkpoint called “Amûd” between Çilmêran and Shengal.
The residents of Shengal respond to the army's provocation attempt with the slogan 'Bijî Berxwedana YBŞ'ê' [Long Live the YBŞ Resistance]. The tension between the people and the army continues. Iraqi troops try to intimidate the people with weapons.
