HDP visits opposition party CHP

The delegations of the HDP and CHP addressed the core issues in Turkey, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) decisions and proposals on the establishment of democracy.

A delegation of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) led by its co-chair Mithat Sancar on Friday visited Republican People's Party (CHP) chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.

HDP's visit took place within the "Justice for All" campaign that will be launched on January 8th. The first party HDP visited was Saadet Party (SP) ahead of the campaign.

Party spokesman Ebru Günay, deputy co-chairperson Tuncer Bakırhan, group deputy chairman Saruhan Oluç and Mersin deputy Fatma Kurtulan attended the meeting held at the CHP Headquarters.

Deputy chairmen Muharrem Erkek and Oğuz Kaan Salıcı, party spokesperson Faik Öztrak and secretary general Selin Sayek Böke were present in the CHP delegation.

The delegations addressed the core issues in Turkey, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) decisions and proposals on the establishment of democracy.

HDP co-chair Sancar answered the questions of journalists after the meeting.

"Meetings with the opposition parties, one of the most important programs of the new phase of our democracy campaign, continues," Sancar said.

"Our conversations will continue. The next stop will be the Future Party, on February 9th. Then will follow the Deva Party,” he added.

FRAMEWORK OF THREE NEGOTIATION PROPOSALS

Sancar said, “We have a negotiation proposal framework that we present to opposition parties. We propose that these be negotiated between opposition parties,” he said, adding that this consists of three chapters.

“The first is the issue of how we can fix severe injustices experienced during the state of emergency,” Sancar said, pointing to the judicial crisis, the non-implementation of the ECtHR decisions and the trustee regime. He defined the struggle against the trustee regime is a struggle for democracy.

Regarding another chapter, "road clearance", the HDP co-chair said; "The road must be consolidated already now for democracy and democratic elections. We know very well from past experiences that we cannot expect this from the government.” He added that the opposition has a duty in this regard.

Remarking that an electoral alliance is not on the agenda at the moment, he noted that this issue was not brought up in the meeting with the CHP. “However, electoral security is one of the most fundamental issues. We have seen that we agree on this matter. We cannot see electoral security independent from democratization."

Calling the third chapter as “a return to the parliamentary democratic system”, Sancar continued, “We know that there is a general consensus among the opposition parties. We see the return to a strengthened parliamentary system as the most important item of the program of strengthening the democratic system (…) We propose a strong parliament, strong control system and strong local democracy. The constitution of 1921 can be considered as a source of inspiration in this regard.”
