HDP visits opposition parties

HDP co-chair Pervin Buldan met with DEVA Chairman Ali Babacan in Ankara. The talks took place as part of a series of visits by the HDP to opposition parties.

The Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) is holding talks with opposition parties in Turkey as part of its "Justice for All" campaign. After visits to the CHP (Republican People's Party) and SP (Saadet Partisi / Felicity Party), the third stop was DEVA (Democracy and Progress Party), founded last year by former AKP politician Ali Babacan.

The HDP delegation, led by party chairwoman Pervin Buldan, met with Babacan and other members of his party's executive board at DEVA headquarters in Ankara for a one-hour discussion to exchange views on the fundamental problems in Turkey and possible solutions.

After the conversation, Buldan answered questions from journalists. "As we did with SP and CHP, we talked with DEVA about general issues and the crises in Turkey. We brought up the fact that there is a need for a unity of forces and a democracy alliance within the opposition. In doing so, we put on the table that such a democratic alliance must clear the way in the transitional period until the elections," the HDP chairwoman said.

According to Buldan, the problems with the judiciary and unjustified arrests were addressed. Other topics were the dismissals from the civil service by decrees and the appointment of trustees. This problem, she said, now no longer affected only the HDP, but had spread to western Turkey, as shown, among other things, by the situation at Istanbul's Boğaziçi University.

The HDP is not concerned with an electoral alliance, but with the security of the elections, Pervin Buldan said and added that talks with opposition parties would continue. A meeting with the Future Party (Gelecek Partisi) is scheduled for February 17, and talks are also to be arranged with the IYI Party.
