HDP MP Koç: The government is violating the constitution

HDP Ağrı MP Abdullah Koç said that the constitution was violated with the isolation of Öcalan and urged the AKP / MHP government to abide by the constitution and laws.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Ağrı MP Abdullah Koç spoke to ANF about the isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The Imrali isolation is lawlessness and a violation of the constitution, Koç said. “When you look at the law on the execution of penalties and security measures, articles 83 and 66 regulate convicted persons’ right to meet their families and lawyers”, he added.

"It is a legal regulation that binds the state, governing bodies and everyone, and these rules should be applied equally to everyone."

INTERRUPTING PEACE

It is a separate lawlessness to have a phone call for 3-4 minutes unlawfully and to interrupt this call. If the laws that exist in a society are put aside, we can no longer talk about an order within that system. This also stands in the way of peace and reconciliation efforts in Turkey."

Koç touched upon the ongoing hunger strikes in Turkish prisons, saying, “Hunger strikes have been taking place in Turkey’s prisons for more than 120 days. The political prisoners protest the unlawful isolation and serious violations of rights in prisons. The government has lost its ability to come up with a solution to the problems in Turkey.”

Koç also remarked over the closure case against his party: “We think that the government's move to close the HDP will be inconclusive. HDP is an idea which opens up an opportunity for the liberation of all peoples."
