HDP denounces a plan of assassination against Demirtaş

It came out that Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) filed a denouncement to the Ministry of Interior after getting information about a plan of assassination against the party's co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş.

It came out that Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) filed a denouncement to the Ministry of Interior after getting information about a plan of assassination against the party's co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş. While the AKP government, however, took no action on the issue, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pointed Demirtaş as a target stronger than before the exposure of the assassination plan.

More information has come out on the plan of assassination against Demirtaş in the wake of a recent report by ANF on the subject. Reports confirm the ANF report that Rojava administration had informed the HDP on the plan of assassination against the party's co-chair. The report by ANF also mentioned a warning by Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan to Demirtaş and HDP group deputy chair Pervin Buldan during İmralı talks to “take care of yourselves”.

HDP conveyed the mentioned information verbally to the state officials who, however, took no action on the matter. HDP group deputy chair İdris Baluken therewith submitted an application to the Ministry of Interior denouncing the plan on 5 August, 2015.

The application obtained by ANF says that; "The confirmed information received by our side reveals that a team affiliated to ISIS has entered into Turkey to conduct an assassination against our Co-President Mr. Selahattin Demirtaş. As we have no detailed information about the description of the persons in question, your immediate attention to this matter is kindly requested and appreciated."

While HDP and Demirtaş have extended precautions for security after the exposure of the plan, it grabs attention that the state took no action on the matter.

On the contrary, the AKP government and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan continued pointing Demirtaş as a target despite being informed about the assassination plan, while Erdoğan also uttered threats that "those in relations with the terrorist organization will pay a heavy price".
