First week of the month long sit-in against isolation and Turkish attacks on South Kurdistan ends

The first week of the sit-in protest organised in Strasbourg with the slogan "Avashin, Zap and Metina, Dem Dema Azadiye, everywhere against isolation, occupation and genocide" has ended.

The European Kurdish Women's Movement (TJK-E) and the European Democratic Kurdish Society Congress (KCDK-E) are staging a four-week sit-in in Strasbourg, France against Turkey’s recent attacks on southern Kurdistan and the isolation of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The sit-in protest is organized under the motto “Everywhere is Avashin, everywhere is Zap, everywhere is Metina against occupation and genocide! Time for Freedom!".

The first week of the sit-in ended on Friday night and was held by a group including HDP and DBP elected representatives. The four-week sit-in, which will be taken over by a new group of 30 people each week, is suspended at the weekend. The action will resume on Monday when members of the Kurdish umbrella organization FCK-BW-BT Federation from the German states of Baden-Württemberg and Bayern will take it over.

The action is supported by 78 institutions from Kurdistan and Turkey to protest the isolation imposed on Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan, and the Turkish state's invasion attacks on the Zap, Metina and Avashin in South Kurdistan.

The sit-in began with a press conference on Wednesday. A big poster drew attention to the fact that Öcalan has been held hostage on Imralı for more than 8,000 days.

On the second day of the sit-in, a panel was held while on the third day a session titled "National, Democratic and International Alliances of the Kurdish Freedom Movement" was held. On the last day of the first week of the action, a commemoration of the May Martyrs was held.
