EH Bildu condemns Turkey's attempt to outlaw the HDP

The Basque coalition EH Bildu condemns Turkey's attempt to outlaw the People's Democratic Party (HDP), as well as the sentencing of parliamentarian Ömer Faruk Gergerlioglu, who has been stripped of his MP status.

The Basque coalition EH Bildu issued a statement to "condemn Turkey's attempt to outlaw the People's Democratic Party (HDP), as well as the sentencing of parliamentarian Ömer Faruk Gergerlioglu, who has been stripped of his MP status  for a prison sentence of 2 years, 6 months over a social media post."

The statement continued: "Turkey continues to violate the rights of the Kurdish people. This time with a clear threat to outlaw HDP, Turkey's main Kurdish party. In this sense, we urge the international community to express its rejection of this arbitrariness, as well as to defend the rights of the Kurdish people, in the face of impunity in Turkey."

The statement added: "EH Bildu will continue to defend the political activity of the HDP, and in general, the rights of the Kurdish people, and denouncing the systematic violation of human rights committed by Turkey."
