British deputies visited hunger strikers in London

Brighton MP Russell Lloyd Russell-Moyle said the fact that Öcalan was finally allowed to be visited by his lawyers was a positive step but added that it was necessary that these visits were granted in a regular way.

Enfield Southgate MP Bambos Charalambous and Brighton MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle visited activists Nahide Zengin and Mehmet Sait Yılmaz who have been on hunger strike since 15 March in London.

The hunger strikers were also visited by Enfield Deputy Mayor Ian Barnes, and municipal councillors.

The politicians conveyed their solidarity to Mehmet Sait Yılmaz and Nahide Zengin.

After receiving information about the health condition of the hunger strikers the two British deputies and the other politicians discussed about the hunger strike resistance to end isolation against Abdullah Öcalan and how they could help.

Labour MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle has recently moved a motion to parliament about the hunger strike. Two days ago, Plaid Cymru deputy Liz Saville Roberts also asked the Prime Minister Theresa May what the government was doing about the hunger strike resistance. Prime Minister Theresa May answered by saying that she is aware of the hunger strike going on and of its serious stage.

Labour Party MP Bambos Charalambous told ANF that they had come to see the hunger strikers to bring them their support and that they would continue to work to draw attention to human rights violations in Turkey.

“I came here today to visit the hunger strikers. - said Charalambous - There are serious human rights violations in Turkey and the international community must take action. Leyla Güven has been on hunger strike for 185 days to draw attention to the isolation of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan. I am very concerned about both the ongoing hunger strike and the violation of human rights in Turkey. My friends and I will work in order to create the necessary sensitivity on this issue.”
