Afrin Canton delegation meets officials from European Parliament

A delegation from the Afrin Canton has held high level talks at the European Parliament.

The delegation, led by Afrin Canton Prime Minister Hevi Mustafa includes Foreign Minister Sûleyman Cafer, Deputy Foreign Minister Cihan Muhammed and PYD European Executive Committee member Ibrahim Ibrahim. The HDP’s Council of Europe representative Faik Yağızay accompanied the delegation.

The Afrin Canton delegation held many meetings, including with the head of the European Parliament’s Foreign Relations Commission, Elmar Brok, Left Group President Gaby Zimmer and Green Group Co-President Rebecca Harms.

The delegation explained the inhumane measures perpetrated by gangs such as ISIS and the Al Nusra Front, and the effects of the de facto embargo on Afrin canton. They also explained the model of democratic autonomy created with different identities and communities and what they expect from Europe as they face threats and dangers.

The delegation issued a statement saying they had been received with great interest.

Following their meetings the delegation met people from Kurdistan at the  Mesopotamia Culture Centre yesterday evening

The Afrin canton delegation is expected to continue its meetings today.
