Actions and activities are prohibited in Van, except for those by AKP-linked foundations

All kinds of actions and activities of the Kurdish people and democratic institutions are prohibited in Van, but they are all free for the congregations and foundations close to the government.

The AKP-MHP government, which has implemented an indefinite state of emergency in Van, has prevented legal and democratic institutions, such as the Democratic Party of Rights (HDP) and Democratic Regions Party (DBP), to exercise their democratic rights, such as the right to organize events, stands, press statements, marches, and demonstrations.

The government, however, especially allows its own parties, communities, foundations and associations to hold all kinds of activities.

Congregations, foundations and associations are expanding through Van and its provinces like a spider's web. There are dozens of organizations that are close to the government, such as IHH, Samarkand, Başak Der, Ensar Foundation, Arvasi Foundation, Human Foundation, Umud-Der, Anatolian Youth Foundation, Science Spreading Community, Islamic Science and Irshad Solidarity Association. One of the aims of these associations is to find supporters for the AKP and to contribute to assimilation.

These associations operating in Van frequently organize stands, bazaars and events in city center and neighbourhoods. Van Governorship, district governorships and AKP provincial and district organizations also participate in the organization of these events and provide financial support.

In particular, they ensure participation in all festivals and events organized by the Van Governor's Office and district governorships. In addition to the AKP stand, congregations, associations and foundations close to the AKP participated in the Pearl Mullet Fish Festival jointly organized by the Van Governorate and the Erciş District Governorate. While the people of Van do not show interest in these festivals organized by the governorship, district governorships and AKP, it is basically compulsory for village guards, soldiers, police, civil servants and state workers to attend with their families. Those who do not participate in these activities are fired, fined, threatened with transfer.
