50 detained as police attacks Boğaziçi University students

The police attacked Boğaziçi University students who gathered in front of the Istanbul Courthouse. Nearly 50 people were detained during the crackdown.

Several students were detained by the police yesterday while protesting against the rector Melih Bulu, who was appointed to Boğaziçi University by Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan.

As the 24 students in custody were expected to be referred to the prosecutor's office, their friends came together in front of the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan and make a statement. The police attacked the students and detained nearly 50 people, while they also deleted the pictures taken by journalists covering the crackdown.

Actions and activities to be held in and around the courthouse were also banned by the Kağıthane District Governorship. As a result of the ban, the police evacuated the cafes around the courthouse.

The students are still waiting under the police blockade.
