Women from Maxmur: Our action will continue until isolation ends

Nuran Sezgin, a member of Maxmur Ishtar Assembly who participates in the hunger strike action in front of the United Nation’s office in Hewler, said: “As long as the isolation is in place, our actions will continue.”

Women from the Maxmur Ishtar Assembly set up a tent in front of the United Nations (UN) Representation Office in Hewler earlier today and started an indefinite and alternating hunger strike demanding an end to the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The action is organised as part of the Kurdish hunger strike campaign that was initiated by DTK Co-chair and HDP MP Leyla Güven in Amed Prison 83 days ago and later joined by hundreds of political prisoners in Turkey and North Kurdistan, as well as dozens of activists in Kurdistan, Europe, Toronto and Wales.

Another hunger strike is taking place at Marty Rustem Cudi refugee camp in Maxmur where the 16th group is continuing the action on the 46th day.

Meanwhile, member of Maxmur Ishtar Assembly, Fadila Tok, is on the 11th day of her indefinite and non-alternating hunger strike.

“As long as the isolation is in place, our actions will continue”

Nuran Sezgin, a member of Maxmur Ishtar Assembly and one of the hunger strikers in front of the UN office in Hewler, spoke to the ANF regarding their action; “Our goal is to end the isolation of the Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan and to support the overall hunger strike campaign. The refugees at Maxmur Camp are under the UN protection. We want the international community to listen to our voices. As long as the isolation is in place, our actions will continue.”
