Two people die in a clash in Van

Two people have reportedly died during a clash that took place in Van’s central İpekyolu district last night.

According to reports, clash erupted in Vali Mithat Bey neighborhood in Van’s central İpekyolu district last night. Two people lost their life, while three policemen got wounded, one of them seriously.

Turkish forces laid a siege on the neighborhood with armored vehicles at 00:20 and gunfire was heard from the area till the early morning hours.

While the neighborhood residents couldn’t go out to see what was happening, eyewitnesses told the following; “Dozens of armored vehicles surrounded the neighborhood at 00:00 at night. Two gunfire shots were heard at 00:20, followed by silence for an hour before we again heard gunfire and two explosions. Sounds of gunfire continued to be heard till the morning hours and police forces left the neighborhood at 06:00 in the morning.”

The residents said they do not know about the result of the clash, whether it resulted in casualties or not. Six people from Şahin family were taken into custody.

In a statement about the incident, Van Governorate stated that; “two people in preparation for an action were killed, three policemen got wounded, one of them seriously, and six people were taken into custody”.
