Twin family campaign reaches 250 families in Amed

Within the framework of the twin family campaign launched by the HDP, 250 needy families in the Corona crisis have been reached in Amed so far.

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) has launched a twin family campaign for families in need of support during the Corona pandemic. In Amed (Diyarbakir), according to the HDP provincial association co-chairperson Hülya Alökmen, about 250 families have been reached so far.

"The people have been in great difficulty since the beginning of the pandemic, many people have been laid off and entire families have no income at all," explains the HDP politician. "We have contacted these families. We have focused on women who are single parents and have no income. Then we established contact between these families and the people who want to provide support".

Not only financial support

But the campaign is not only about economic aid. "The entire society is affected by social isolation, lockdown at home and lack of communication. In addition to material solidarity, our campaign also has an idealistic value. The families have contact and talk to each other", says Hülya Alökmen and adds; "As the HDP association in Amed, we have tried to support elderly and single people even before the campaign started".

So far, the HDP has identified some 3,000 people in need of assistance in Amed. Sponsorships have been taken over by people from Europe and from the city itself. "We just establish contact and then withdraw," said the HDP co-chair in Amed.
