People from all parts of Kurdistan gathered in Binarê Qandil (Qendîl) to celebrate Newroz.

Thousands gathered in the Newroz square, lighting fires and dancing in a circle to revolutionary songs.

While one group ascended the mountain with torches, those who remained in the square lit fireworks.

In the square, chants of ‘Bijî Serok Apo’ and ‘Bijî berxwedana gerîla’ echoed, while flags of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and images of Abdullah Öcalan were carried.

Participants stated that they were celebrating two occasions at once, marking both Newroz and Mr. Öcalan's ‘Call for Peace and a Democratic Society.’

Participants spent the night in the square waiting for today's Newroz celebration.
